Long Day!

Hey all! Today I spent my afternoon wandering around Jerusalem, it was glorious. We first went to this cemetery by the center that is on the Mount of Olives. The cemeteries are interesting over here, they have these place markers that look like coffins on top of the burial site so unless you know better, which I didn't at the beginning, you think that the coffins are above ground. It is just this sea of white coffins on the hill side, it is pretty sweet. So we went over there and saw these large above ground tomb buildings, they are awesome. Anciently, if you were a rich person, then your family would have a tomb building and you would all be buried there. After this we went to the Jewish quarter and sat at a little cafe while our friend ate his lunch, it was quite quaint. After the Jewish quarter we headed to Damascus gate to meet up with a friend and then walked back from where we came from to head out of Zion's gate to go to the Dormition Abby where a traditional site of the last supper is and also David's tomb. It was pretty cool but not exactly what I would think of for what the Upper Room looks like. It was way decorative and pretty, making me think that it was restored from Jesus' time. We are learning here that it isn't the question of if a site is really legitimate or not but rather that the things that are thought to happen there that are legitimate. The last supper really did happen, the atonement is a reality, and Christ was resurrected, these are the things that are important. Going to sites really helps cement the reality of the events of Christ's life. I am so thankful for the opportunity that I have to be here and grow.
